About Santa Fe
Santa Fe is nestled in the high desert foothills of the Sangre de Cristo mountains at 7,000ft. Its full name, when founded in 1607, was La Villa Real de la Santa Fe de San Francisco de Asís ("The Royal Town of the Holy Faith of Saint Francis of Assisi "). Santa Fe is the oldest capital city in North America and the oldest European community west of the Mississippi. At 400 years old, Santa Fe is the nation's oldest capital city and has been and remains a rich crossroads of Native American, Spanish and Anglo cultures.
The early Native American inhabitants called it "Dancing Ground of the Sun"; while the founding frontiersman at the turn of the 20th century referred to it as "The City Different". Those nicknames still hold true today as Santa Fe is a unique blend of Anglo, Spanish and Native Cultures against a back drop of color drenched sunsets.
